Favorite Scripture: Set your Hearts - Pastor Chris

When riding mountain bikes or dirt bikes there is a principle I learned the hard way. In reality this principle works with a lot of things, like driving, raising kids, walking, choosing friends and life in general. This principle seems very simple, but it trips many of us up at times. I am sure as soon as I mention it you will realize it has tripped you up before. Maybe you have never heard it and it will help you in your extreme sports and hopefully life in general. So you ready, here it is:

"You will go where you look!"

Yup, that is it. I learned this riding mountain bikes and dirt bikes. If there is a big rock in the middle of the trail, don't look at it, otherwise you will hit it. If there is a gully on the right side, don't focus on it otherwise you will be in it. 

I learned very quickly that I could traverse extremely narrow sections of trail, with hazards on both sides as long as I kept my focus on that narrow path. Even in Golf they tell you at the end of your swing you should be facing where you want the ball to go. 

This applies to more than just sports. In life we will go where we focus. We can spend all of our time focusing on the pitfalls and, the chances are, we will end up in them. Or we can focus on where we want to go and somewhat miraculously traverse the narrow section of the trail of life in between the hazards. 

Where is your focus? My favorite chapter in the bible is Colossians 3. Check out these passages and be encouraged by them.

3 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. ² Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. ³ For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is your^[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

¹² Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. ¹³ Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. ¹⁴ And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

¹⁵ Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.And be thankful. ¹⁶ Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. ¹⁷ And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
